I'm planning on getting an Evernew 1.3L titanium pot, and am trying to decide between the one with a nonstick coating and the one without. The one with the nonstick coating weighs 5.99 oz, the one without the nonstick coating weighs 4.58 oz, according to REI.com. A couple hundredths of an ounce aside, there is about a 1.5 oz difference. Is the nonstick coating worth it? How delicate is it? I've heard that titanium distributes heat poorly, does the nonstick coating help? Will it retain heat longer? Any help is appreciated.

Forget the nonstick. It really isn't worth it. Save the extra $ and get some pine needles to scub your pot with.

I think it comes down to personal preference. I like the Evernew pot with the nonstick coating. I tend to burn stuff and any help I can get in cleaning up is always welcome.

It also depends on how/what you cook. I've never had a problem with food sticking in my evernew titanium, so I wouldn't bother with the non-stick.

Food sticks in a camp cookpot when you don't put enough water in. If your dinner gets too thick, add a bit more H2O and you won't have the sticking problem.

I went with the 0.9L evernew without the non-stick coating for my thru-hike in 2003. Pot came back home with me looking pretty darn good, with the exception of a couple burn marks on the outside bottom. Don't remember if it was available when I bought mine but if it was I might have gone the non-stick route.

If you tend to overcook/burn things on your hikes you might appreciate the non-stick.

My water hardly ever sticks to the pot. LOL

I used a non-stick Evernew titanium and found it worked fine for me.

That is the one I am looking at. The 0.9L Evernew without the non-stick coating seems like a good pot. For what it is worth, I seem to rough on non-stick coatings anyway, so they never seem to last for me, so I'll figure I'll just skip it. And to add to that, I have a SnowPeak set now that isn't non-stick, and it cleans up just fine without a non-stick coating.

Looks like a good deal to me... (http://www.rei.com/online/store/ProductDisplay?productId=6188525&storeId=8000&catalogId=40000008000&langId=-1&color=&img=/media/665381Lrg.jpg&view=large&)

I just made that decision yesterday and bought the lighter one. I figure, with the 1.5 oz saved, I can bring a pot scrubber and scrub the heck out of it without worrying about the coating. Besides, as stated already, water rarely sticks to the pan anyway.There were other threads here or on trailjournals, I cant remember which, that indicated some others had some non-stick not being non stick anyway, or scraping off after awhile, so not worth the extra $.

Thank ya'll for the 411. I think I'll skip on the nostick, but I can scarcely imagine being satisfied with 0.9L capacity, so I'll swing big with the 1.3L pot. Thanks, again.

woops, that last post was supposed to be from me - I'm on a communal computer that automatically logged runs247 in.

You'll be glad you did Top. Perfect size for one person. If you're still hungry after one portion you can always boil up some more water and dump in your noodles/rice or whatever.

to = THWOMPUS,

I used that exact pot on hike, I loved it, if something does stick which was very, very unusual, after I was done eating (my pot was my bowl and plate too) I simply added a little water to it, heated it up and wiped it out with my bandana. I highly reccommend it.
