Hello, I am starting a section on the JMT 8/9/11 from Onion Valley campground to Reds Meadow and wanted to know if snow and bugs would still be a concern. I know that there aren’t any fortune tellers here so I am soliciting advice from people who have been in the backcountry already this year and have a decent idea of what the snow and bugs might be like in the future, preferably early to mid August. Thank you in advance.

I'm leaving out of Dana Meadows to Whitney on 8/15, so I may pass you somewhere along the way.
Snow should be present above 10,000 ft. Probably not all over, but large patches would be expected.
Mosquitoes would normally be winding down by 8/9, but with all the snow this year, I would take the necessary gear regarding bugs. I normally would take a tarp, but this year I'm taking a Tarptent Contrail just to keep the bugs off.
