Need suggestions on Two man tent for wife and me for AT (NC/GA) 8 day hike in late Sept. The lighter the better as long as it not like a thousand bucks.

I have the Tarptent Double Rainbow (http://tarptent.com/index.html) and I love it. Lightheart has something similar that also gets good reviews. The Hubba Hubba and REI's T2 are both solid tents.

If I were looking to get a true 2 person tent I would go with the Lunar Duo. Have heard wonderful things about it when I was looking and from what people say its huge inside. And its not $1000.

I suggest the Lightheart Duo. Super light and very reasonable. Google Lighthear Gear.... Judy, the inventer/seamstress, is a member here too

I have a LightHeart Duo for sale. $200, seam sealed. Costs $295 new. Only used it once with my husband, who hated sleeping outside. He said never again. So I will only need my Lightheard Solo. PM me if interested.

Texsport Riverstone 2 Person Square Dome Tent (Silver/Blue, 7-Feet X 5-Feet X 48-Inch ) nothing special and was decent price, got it off of amazon, paid about $50 with shipping, time will tell if the investment needs to be replaced lol

My wife and I use the Tarptent Rainshadow II.
It's really a 3 person tent so it gives us plenty of room to spread out. Also, it does a good job at keeping out both the weather and bugs. You can see the details at http://tarptent.com/rainshadow2.html

No human hand should touch a Texsport tent. BTW, one's available on Amazon for $37.00.

Yep, you get what you pay for.

Also, beware of some of the tents that go on sale at REI, the ones for less than $100. I've been an REI member since 1970, I love them, and I hate to badmouth them, but sometimes they put their name on something that has no business on the trail. Take the Chrysalis 2, for example. Advertised as superlight (3-4 pounds) for two people. Well, maybe two height-challenged and amorous people. The tent floor is like a parallelogram and the only way I could fit inside was on the longest diagonal and then only with my head and feet pushed into the corners. A standard 72" sleep pad would not fit - you would have to trim the corners. Two people? Only one on top of the other. Of course, you can read the reviews and get the same information, but sometimes you see the good reviews first and don't think you have to read more.

2 kids maybe

I think a three person tent might be worthwhile, for a week trip with the Ms.

+1 for the Six Moons Designs Lunar Duo. It's a freakin' palace for 42 ounces.

I know Eureka's are cheap. I have an Apex 2XT I use when going with the girlfriend. Two doors and two vestibules. It is heavy at just over 5 pounds but isn't so bad when she's carrying the cook set.

Of course, the only place you can stealth camp with it is in a field of dandelions...

Lightheart Duo is what I wound up getting. You would not be disappointed. Great tent

I would suggest a Black Diamond Highlite, only the new version because of better waterproofing. Light and very storm worthy.

Your description of fitting inside the tent reminded of an old Mad Magazine cover with this image---

Lunar Duo is probably the best 2 person lightweight tent, its not the lightest though, come in at 2.75 lbs with stakes and seam seal.

Beware of tents where both occupants cannot sit up at same time due to sharply sloping walls. If thats important to you. If you have to be in middle to situp, and both persons are laying near sides (side by side) it really sucks.
