Hiking between Elks Garden and Atkins, VA

Folks,

Me and a few friends are hiking between Elks Garden and Atkins VA (about 50 miles). Has anyone hiked this section this late in the season?

How is the water? Any recommendation or input would be appreciated. We are planning on parking on either end and self shuttling, unless there is a good shuttle service in the area.

water is good right now. do not park at elk garden. park at the atkins end

It is supposed to warm up now, but for several days we have had a pretty constant gift of water from the sky on the north side of Mt. Rogers. Have a great hike.--Kinnickinic
