ATC map shows water at Bald Mtn. Shelter; AT Mileage Chart website (which is generally great for locating camp sites and water) lists "NONE" for water - mistake? There must be a water source at the shelter, yes?

Was there a few weeks ago and there was definitely water very close to the shelter.

I stayed overnight at the shelter on a trip in 2009 and water was off in the brush around the left
side of the shelter. Maybe 100 ft away. I think there was a sign as well. Flow was decent, and I
think I passed through in August when it starts to get dryer.

The source is located to the left of the shelter down the bank on the TN side. If its still like I last saw. You go past the first seeping area, and there is a catch pool and pipe.

There are also several water sources located 1.5 miles or less in either direction from the shelter, especially on the south side right before you summit Big Bald.

On the north side, about .25 miles from the shelter is a tenting area (there's a sign) with a great spring just down the hill.

Actually, now that I think about it, there are streams all over the place up there.. You won't have any trouble locating water right off the AT in that area.
