Hey there.... So im new to this site and new to the trail. My buddy and I are currently in Afghanistan and looking to hike from somewhere around I-40 North Caroloina/Tennessee area past Clingmon's Dome and hike to Unicoi. Does anyone have a number or email to reach the guys at Standing Bear Farm? Also anyone know how many miles it is from I-40 to Fontana Dam?

Also note that you'll need to have reservations for the shelters for every night on the A.T. through the park (not sure if you knew that, it's not always obvious.) You can contact the Backcountry Information Office at (865) 436-1297.
The reservation thing is something of a PITA. If you want a similar hike, the section just south of the park runs from Fontana Dam to Winding Stair Gap at US 64 outside Franklin, NC. It's a wonderful hike with an easy shuttle.
