Where should i start?

So Im heading out on my hike mid august from Maine -Ny..I do not want to hike katahdin i would like to save that site for when i do my full thru hike at another time ,so my question is where would be the best place to start for my walk back to Ny ,i guess i wouldn't even necessarily HAVE to start in Maine but id like to do a nice 500-600 mile trek from north to south,any recommendations will be considered

It's just south of the 100 mile wilderness (and 115 south of Katahdin) and you won't have to worry about carrying as much food to start as you'll be able to see a town every 40 miles or so.

Keep in mind, the northern 400 miles of the trail are the hardest.
