With all the road crossings on the AT, I would think theres been plenty of fresh meat available.
Has anyone considered roadkill as a way of enhancing the trail meal experience?

I lol'd.
I think I would have to be pretty hungry to eat rotten roadkill.
How about a side order of chipmunk stew?

I had an elderly friend fry a rabbit once while we were camper camping and it was tasty. We saw it get hit so knew it was fresh. However, it takes too long to skin and gut roadkill to consider it backpacking fare. Of course, a really hungry hiker could just cut off the legs, remove the skin and roast over a fire.
All this talk of fresh meat has made me hungry and there's a big snake living in my woodshed. Anyone got a good recipe for black snake?

Eustace Conway claimed he ate roadkill (and about anything else that would hold still long enough) on his AT hike.

So how many hikers went missing the year he hiked?

Why eat road kill with all that fresh dog meat on the trail?

There's a reason that harmless black snake lives there... eat him and watch all the other critters take hold of the place. ;)

I don't eat dogs. That is why encourage others to haul "backpacking" cats.

The Donner Party would likely say YES! Gotta be better if the food source hadn't succumbed to starvation or disease.

Some of them would, some wouldn't.
