Any of the cases, esp the one in VA, near the AT? I would assume any of the standard treatment modalities would suffice.

What a horrible way to go...........

I've heard of this before. It's rarely, but almost always fatal, with meningitis-like symptoms.
Here's a news report on staying safe:http://www.wtsp.com/news/article/206352/12/Brain-eating-amoeba-rare-but-deadly-How-to-stay-safe

From what I understand this amoeba is a warm water issue. 80+ water.

Some of the teens in my family knew the girl from Mims Fl. We were all praying and hoping for her to survive but it was not to be. She went to Astronaut High school in Titusville.
The organisim is most dangerous to teens and young adults. The thought is that the older you get the more resistant your system is to attack. Warm fresh water is it's home. It lives in the muddy bottom but can be stirred up while swimming. It enters your body through the nose and ears. I don't think it can survive ingestion.

BTW...Courtney Nash was an organ donor and 7 of her organs were used. What a brave young lady!
