Trail conditions north of Pearisburg to Pine Swamp shelter?

Is this section of trail, particularly north of Symms Gap meadow, overgrown with thorny brush currently? I hiked it many years ago in late July and vividly remember clawing through the overgrowth wishing I had a machete. I wore shorts too. I may be hiking through there again in September.

There were sections just as you describe it late June this year. Definitely overgrown, although I don't remember thorns. Maybe it's been cleared by now.
