I'm planning my Fall section hike and I'm thinking of doing the
Smokies this time. I'd start at Davenport Gap and end at Clingman's Dome. (I know, I know it's all up hill, but my body prefers that to fighting gravity going down hill.)

I'm trying to figure out the best way to deal with the logistics. I live near Asheville so I'm not too far away.

I do like to end up at my car so I control when my hike is done.

So, any recommendations on a shuttle from CD to Davenport Gap?

Standing Bear Farm Hostel (http://standingbearfarm.tripod.com/) is just a mile trail-north of where the AT crosses I-40. You could park there and have the owner, Curtis (423-487-0014;
[email protected]), pick you up at Clingmans Dome. Normally I would walk to my car, but I didn't think it was safe to park at Clingmans.

My knees prefer uphill also.
