Take this with whatever a grain of salt that you will, but the Farmer's Almanac's predicting a very wet late August-September. Most hurricanes, according to them, are expected to hit the Gulf Coast and Texas. www.farmersalmanac.com (http://www.farmersalmanac.com) I don't like to see any area of the country to get a hurricane but some parts of the south and especially Texas are bone dry. Keep tuned in to the Weather Channel and start dreaming of the trail some day. Who knows... the Doyles might have a hurricane party with their world famous hamburgers and fries and not to mention a cold beer or two to wash it all down. Heck, if we're lucky, they might raffle off the keys to the mysterious room 23 while they're at it. LOL

Well, last year they predicted it wouldn't snow much in the North East and we got dumped on. So, I bet all the hurricans come up the east coast like Irene this year...

Texas might need rain, but it doesn't need tropical down pours which will just cause flash floods and wash away a lot of top soil. They need months of light soaking rain. But then, the N.E. doesn't need tropical down pours either, since we've had enough water and a lot of soils are already saturated. I guess nobody can win with either senerio.

Farmers took years of visual weather notes and discovered a pattern based on a 23 year pattern that included solar spots in his formula. Keep in mind the almanac used to have a hole so one could hang it inside the outhouse and use the sheets as TP.

Develop your visual weather knowledge instead.

Trouble with the solar spot observation (and its effect on weather) is that we're in (and have been in) a very long, very "deep" solar minimum for several years now http://science.nasa.gov/science-news/science-at-nasa/2011/02mar_spotlesssun/

Predicting a wet august half way through a record setting wet August here in New York is a bit like predicting the 2010 World Series now.
