View Full Version : Cut out your tongue?

The tongue in your sneakers, that is. I was boxing stuff up in my apartment today, found an old pair of NBs, and said 'what the hey.' After a day of work, my feet are less damp than usual. This could prove useful in preventing blisters. Anyone have anything to say about long term tongue-less shoes?

yeah it is one of Ray's tips. If you get a chance to read his book, I definiately suggest it to anybody attempting a thru>

I cut out the tongues of two pairs of shoes a la Jardine. It works OK. Certainly helps in being able to slip the shoes on and off without untying them.

I guess I walked 60 miles in this footwear.

I did pick up a lot of rocks in my shoes, but it was then easy to take them off and dump them. By a lot of rocks, I mean needing to dump them about every 15 minutes, sometimes more.

I progressed from the tongueless shoes (New Balance 806s) to sandals even before my first section hike. I had found that taking the shoes on and off wore the cloth out on the heel cup and the plastic would start poking through and wearing at my heel.

A brand new pair of 806s lasted me only 50 miles of trail walking, when I used them this way.
