oglethorpe mtn still connected to AT?

I was reading a book tonight about the AT and it talked about oglethorpe mountain being the original starting point of the AT. I poked around on the net but couldn't find much info about oglethorpe mountain. Is the AT still connected to this summit? Is it north or south of Springer...as in if you hike from Katadhin would it be father to go to Springer or Oglethorpe.

Is approximately SW of Amicalola State Park something like 15 miles or so, which itself is SW of Springer Mtn. Oglethorpe is on private land, so you cannot get to it without trespassing. My understanding is that the Appalachian Trail was rerouted to start further north of Oglethorpe due to all the poultry processing plant stench hikers starting out from Oglethorpe routinely encountered, even in the early days.
