Has anyone ever come across a good version of a map to put online to update with a hiker's progress as they thru-hike?

I'm looking for a good clear version to put online for friends and family to follow along as I make my way north.

A quick google search found some maps here (http://www.rhodesmill.org/thefox/maps.html) .

They have them in sections and assembled at a lower resolution

Hiker5 has the reference to the best downloadable detailed maps I've found on line. If you don't want that much detail, click here (http://www.appalachiantrail.org/hike/atmap.html) to find an A.T. strip map of the entire A.T. on the ATC web site. Right click on the map image and do a "save picture as" to save the 75Kb JPEG image on your computer.

With either option you can now use any photo editing program (like Photoshop) to add an arrow and note to the image to show others where you are.

I took the 4' x 12" fold-up map sold by the ATC and mounted it on gel board and built a wooden frame. Used it for my wife's thru in 2001 and mine in 2003. Still hanging on the living room wall with both of our push-pins on Katahdin.

I've also used that map to give presentations on the AT.
