Yes. But you cannot camp within park grounds, which means camping outside the park boundries (makes for a much longer hike or a taxi to the trailhead inside the park), and you are subject to BSP's rules as to when, and whether or not you are allowed to climb. After October 15, you can't camp within Baxter State Park. The only realistic way to summit Katahdin after that day would be to Hike to Katahdin Stream Campground then hitch or get shuttled out to AT Lodge in Millinocket. Stay there... get shuttled back to K Stream trail head, hike the mountain and get shuttled or hitch out.
A more serious issue is likely to be weather conditions. Many years.. winter conditions set in during or before Columbus Day weekend. Katahdin is a serious Mountain much like Mount Washington with similar conditions. I would plan to summit by the end of September. After that things get real dicey real quick. especially if you aren't skilled and equipped for winter mountaineering conditions.

There was ice on Katahdin 2 days after my summit in 08 (September 30)
Turtle, did you hook up with 'It's all good ', on the trail last year?
Or is this another Turtle?
