Hi, my g/f and I are in the stages of planning our first AT section hike. We will be leaving on Sept 24th and plan on 5-6 nights on trail. This site has been a godsend for helping us choose gear and rations, but the problem we are having is finding a section to hike. We plan on a total of 50 - 60 miles and we are hoping someone could point us in the right direction.

We are looking more for gentle rises than omg I think I'm having a heart attack climbs.
I want to make this a trip she will never forget, and one that may lead to many more section hikes.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Bob

I agree with Lone Wolf. Start at Fox Creek (VA 603) and hike South to Damascus. One decent climb up Pine Mountain, but it isn't steep, just longish. And it would be in the beginning of the hike, so you get it over with early. After that it is small ups and downs with a significant down after Whitetop Mtn. Beautiful area, great scenery and some of the best views for this time of year in Grayson Highlands.....and you can pick Lone Wolf's brain :-)

Agree with Lone Wolf. Hiking from Partnership Shelter back to Damascus with my girlfriend, Dancer, about a month after y'all are doing your hike. Enjoy! :D
