Ok so how do i get from the airport in Atlanta to Amicalola or Springer mountian? Is there bus service to a nearby city where i can get a cab to the trail head?

and what is the approx cost of it for those who did it before. I am going ot hit Grey Hound and other bus companies to see if they go from atlanta to Suches Ga(the first town when heading North) but there may be a town closer to Amicalola or Springer to the south, i have to scour the maps of the area.

if anyone knows let me know. thank you

You can get a bus from Atlanta to Gainesville. Then a cab from there to Amicalola St. Park. About $40.00.

Nothing closer. Gainesville is about 45 miles from the park. Try Wingfoot's site for a list of shuttlers. You may be able to get picked up in Atlanta and taken all the way for real cheap.

You can also check the forum titled 'From here to there' on this board. Several shuttlers are mentioned there.

well grey hound is cheap 14 bucks from atlanta's grey hound station

and 16 bucks from atlanta airport's grey hound station.

now thats reasonable for a 2 hour ride, the shuttler would probally charge over 60, half of my airfare from NYC.

45 miles you say? is it a nice scenic walk?

I hear that the road walk to Amicola is rather dangerous. Then again I was also told it would take me atleast 4 hours to make it through Mahoosuc Notch, which ended up taking me 1.5 hours in a strong rain. Best of luck whichever you decide.

2 lane country highway from Dahlonega, so more like country highway with small shoulders dangerous. Mainly from fast moving traffic, not unfriendly folks.

maybe a friendly trucker will give a lift for 40 miles or so. If your gonna get robbed or killed hitch hiking you might as well get it out of the way early on.

Guess i will just stick with the over priced cab out of Gainesville.

thanks all.

Yea.....Gettin' To Amicalola. I take the bus to Atlanta, transfer to another one to Gainsville, then Hitch to Amicalola. It takes a while, but you have nothing but time once you start to get there. Hitchin' gets you ready for The Trail. You'll do alot o' hitchin' in and out of towns to get food and whatnot. Don't say you won't. You'll see, you have to. Otherwise you end up walking 4,000 miles to ME.

Gettin to amicalola only cost a train ride from atlanta, and then shuttle for about 60 bucks. Its a great ride if you get the right guy.
