I'm going to be pedantic and say that the IAT goes from Katahdin to Gaspe. What you are referring to is the Eastern Continental Trail.

I could be wrong, don't forget, but I doubt it.

Of course some would say that the "ECT" doesn't really exist. Rather, it is the product of some overactive imaginations and lacks congressional sanction. On a side note, I wonder if others once accuses Benton McKaye of having an overactive imagination. Certainly he had an economy sized one.

Now to finish writing out of the joy of reading my own words and get to your question: I don't think it goes anywhere near where you are talking (at least in Georgia...how it gets down the Florida penninsula is another matter about which I know even less). I think the route south of Spring roughly describes the line between Springer and the Talledega National Forest in 'Bama.

Hope that helps.

Nimblewill Nomad in his book 'Where The Path Is Less Worn' mentions the Alabama and Georgia Pinhoti trails and the Benton Mackaye trail and the Florida Trail. He also mentions a lot of roadwalk in the south. There is much more information in his book. He also mentions the ECT many times as the trail along the eastern U.S.

There is no such trail in South Georgia. The Eastern Continental Trail makes it's way from Florida to Springer by way of Alabama.

The Florida Trail, which is the southern portion of the ECT, runs very close (less than 50 miles away) to Tallahassee. It continues west across the FL panhandle before entering AL, where it turns north proceeding along backroads and some trails before it hits the AL Pinhoti.

From the first link, scroll down to the bottom and zoom in on the map to see that it passes just to the south of Tallahassee.

Even though there've been plans for many years...most times...the IAT is the trail north of Mt.K.

ck out the IAT home page:

ANyone with exacts, thanks...GA sectoin runs pretty much East-West, alas, not too close to Valdosta.

Not much info available (look for GA Pinhoti trail info)

The FT runs up Florida to panhandle, thena long road walk to arokund Flagg Mtn in Alabama (north of Montgomery). From there to GA there is good info and trailmaps. Check out:

The once was a GA Pinoti guide, but it went out of print a few years ago and is proably hopelessly inaccurate by now. There are no good maps that I know of, but there is an slightly old guide to be found here:

http://www.georgiapinhoti.org/maps.htm#GA1

You'll still need good topos or GA Delorme.
