It is certainly under water, is it actually damaged?

Looks like good practice for hiking the Florida Trail.

The ATC says that sections are broken and sideways.

Yes a shame indeed. I guess it is back to roadwalking around that swamp area?!? I hated that roadwalk when I was a scout in my younger years.

It should be fine when the water level lowers. We have a boardwalk through a swampy area near here that floods all the time after a good rain.

How recent are these pics? Another couple of inches or so have been coming down this past week, starting this Tuesday.

I imagine the water is already below the level of the boardwalk, pics were taken ~ 5 days ago. Some pics make it look like they were not simply flooded over the top by water, some look like they are tilted. But I'd be interested to hear an indepth damage report.

I went out to do a quick survey after reading this thread an hour ago. The initial section looks intact. This is an area that experiences spring flood with great regularity, so Irene would possibly not be an unprecedented level of water, although area bridges and roads have taken a pounding. I dropped a southbounder at the trailhead yesterday am: he reported no significant trouble several hours later from the pochuck mountain shelter. I have asked him for a report. I'll get out Friday and survey the boardwalk and report back. Local trails are in decent shape, allowing for some washouts and the inevitable blowdowns.

This is great news. I was worried that some of the boardwalk may have been washed away or significantly damaged. Our trail maintainers have enough to do!
