Today it rained. No, I mean it poured, all day. So much for hiking this weekend. How is everyone else on this holiday weekend? Did anyone get a lot of rain this weekend?

Just a little at our house in Nashville, Tennessee. August was a very dry month for us. My father in SC said it was the dryest August on record down there.

Rain is our friend. Makes the grass to grown, the flowers to bloom, and the trees to shade us!

Feeling a little smug, actually. Tomorrow, I had planned to drive to Hot Springs for a couple of days hiking, but my wife suddenly had a minor surgical procedure scheduled for Wednesday. Of course, I canceled to be with her. Now, it's going to be pouring, and I'm not there. Fooled 'em!

Car camping with the family this weekend. Started raining at 2 yesterday afternoon. Now it's 7:30 in the morning and it hasn't stopped.

Started last night. Not too bad yet. Only about .25 inches. Forecast is for 6"-12" through Wednesday. Oops, skies just opened up. It is pouring down as I write. Just lost satellite signal.

Damn near the whole east coast is being rained on! On the brightside looks like Lee left New Orleans. http://www.weather.com/weather/map/interactive/

Who cares if it's raining, get out there! Some of the best hiking experiences i have had were in the rain.

We're currently getting soaked in northern GA., and I couldn't be happier! It's from the tropical storm I guess, and while I hated to see my MS and AL relatives catch the worst of it, I'm glad it's finally raining here. It had been about two months since we'd had significant rain. It should help fill up some of the water supplies on the AT GA sections.

Glad I went on my trip last week, I must say. We're supposed to get 4-6 inches.

I was originally gonna start my GA section hike on Saturday. I'm glad I changed the date, I would have washed away!

I put off hiking this weekend because it was forecast to rain and then it didn't rain. Also I had packing anxiety (that feeling that you're going to forget some vital piece of gear and then end up starving to death in the swamps of Jersey).

A few sprinkles fell today, but it didn't affect me because I went hiking yesterday.

It has poured here all day but we really needed it. Some friends and I broke camp yesterday on a kayaking trip and headed home because of the predicted weather today. My wife and some of her friends are stranded on a cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico. They were supposed to dock this morning in Mobile but seas were too rough for the Harbor Pilot to board and bring them in. They had to turn around and sail back out to calmer and safer waters. They are hoping to dock sometime tomorrow morning.

At least the water sources will be more reliable in the southern part of the AT for a while.

At long last the sun came out this weekend after a lot of fog this summer. Enjoyed some Southern California high country this weekend.

I hiked northern virginia this weekend and in 4.5 days i was only rained on for 3. The other days it was about 90 so the rain felt really good.

Soaked in Ma. Mother Nature keeps us humble. Love the sound of the rain. Not much we can do but wait for the water levels to go down. In a way I'm looking forward to first frost and the mud freezing up. Sometimes I think it best for us locals to stay off the trail since walking around water is natural but hurts the trail by making the path wide.
