Is there a schedule of when there are planned gatherings here? I know the sign there says 2nd week of August but are there monthly gatherings of Church-goers? Heading there with several friends in October and want to make sure we'll actually be able to camp there...

What Southerners also refer to as "Decoration Day" is an annual gathering at cemeteries to clean up and place flowers. They also serve as family reunions of those with ancestors in the cemetery. I don't think there are any current burials at Hickory Flats so it is unlikely that you will find them using the pavilion other than the annual gathering. I could not find a contact number for New Bethel Church that maintains the property.
Last I knew there was no water available at the pavilion with closest supply at Long Creek Falls.

Here's a genealogical link to who your neighbors will be in the grave yard.
