Had the pleasure in meeting him and his hiking companions Trolley and dbl check as he had just left whitehouse landing camps,we are saddened to hear this news, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and all who knew him.He was so close to finishing the trail, and was going to try to get the 32 miles to abol that day.they did feel like family when they left our camps that morning. He even wrote that in our book.such a sad day it is.

Puts new meaning to the phrase "The Greatest Mountain Awaits"

It makes me sad to read news like this, and it always causes me to feel sympathy for the person's family and loved ones. The other thing it does is remind me to do today the things I want to do, because tomorrow isn't guaranteed to anybody. It seems illogical, but a story like this always makes me want to go hiking.

If he was hiking the trail at 69, then he must have had a true zest for life.
Peace be with you Robert and to your family

Ran into him and his buddies this year at the Mahoosuc Notch. They were all in high spirits and having a blast. I take comfort in knowing that he was doing something that he loved.
