As soon as I read the title I looked to the right to check the forum expecting to see "Hiking Humor"...

Either with your food or in a small plastic container in your sleeping bag. A Ziplock is okay if you don't roll on it and break them. Hanging the bag is up to your assessment of actual bear danger. Realistically, a hiker's breath smells like food too, as does most of their gear and clothing as well, so don't think bears don't smell all that too. Dogs are notorious for ruining dentures. And yes, it's the smell. The acrylic retains food odors / bacteria which is why they need to be cleaned with both brushing and those tablets. Most all denture adhesives also smell, as they have flavorings in them.

I learn something new everytime I read whiteblaze posts; that's what keeps me coming back:)

I've also heard that dogs just find the acrylic (valplast?) itself yummy. Could be. Dogs are smart - but slow. Dog owners all know what I'm saying.

Remove teeth, clean them, put them back into your mouth.

Keep your teeth with you. You'll need them for that midnight Snickers bar snack that you stashed in your sleeping bag!

My dentist recommends that I keep them in my mouth at night. Guess I will just have to keep my mouth shut. That will keep my wife happy.

Plus, lets face it, we sound like cartoon characters when we talk without our teeth in.

Good one. I lost them after making a typical 4eyed wise@$$ comment to a couple of bikers one night.

The real story is a combination of poor dental care, genetic enamel problems, plus a motorcycle accident back in the early 90's . . . a long story. I have a few of my own left, plus some implants, and partials - it's an exercise in progress in dental engineering (and an expensive one I might add). The damn grinning smilie :D has a better set of natural teeth than me.
