If you're a fan of the A.T., Lester Kenway of the Maine Appalachian Trail Club is a name worth knowing. Lester pioneered techniques for building steps on steep slopes in Maine (including Katahdin) that are now used up and down the A.T. and on trails around the country.
He's a quiet guy who keeps a low profile, but if you volunteered on the 2010 Millinocket Hardcore trail crew (and possibly other years) he was the leader of the crew.
