This is a great example with good discussion of the possible results of self-absorbed risks that all of us must put between our ears. Don'cha think?--Kinnickinic

Amazingly, good old common sense, or more properly the lack of it, seems to play into many causes of rescue. Often it's inexperience, such as you find in the Whites in NH, or at Half Dome in Yosemite, or some other easily accessed point of challenege that doesn't require high skill to conquer. But the experienced adventurers push it way too far sometimes as well. "Man's got to know his limitations."

Regarding inexperienced hikers getting in way over their heads, as Foghorn Leghorn would say, "Son, ya got to learn to cluck before you can crow. Boy's about a bright as a bulb of garlic..."

Regarding experienced fools: "There are old mountaineers, there are bold mountaineers, but no bold and old mountaineers." - Ed Viesturs
