planning a sobo thru hike for 2012. was intrested if there were any micro-breweries just off the trail. love a good ipa now and again and would be cool to visit some breweries off the trail.

I like a good (English) IPA too but the first thing I craved whenever I hit town was a cold bottle of Orange Juice.......Yum.

Nantahala Brewing is in Bryson City. It just opened up. Their Noon day IPA is one of my favorite beers right now. They even have a beer named after the AT. You can get it at Rivers End or call to visit the tasting room.

Delaware Water Gap (in or near) use to have a some. Can't remember names. DWG area does have some very good restaurants/pubs.

I don't know exactly where it is brewed but if you don't stop at the Inn at Long Trail between Rutland and Killington VT for a Long Trail Ale, you're nuts.

Its a bit off trail but Asheville, about 28 miles from Sams Gap is "Beer City USA". Some of the best brews on the trail. There is a hostel called Sweet Pea Hostel above the Lexington Ave Brewery. Worth the trip, there are brewery tours and tons of good food including LAB.
