How easy is it to get canster fuel on the whole trail
My buddy only bought 2 cans the entire trail. The rest of the time he grabbed "empties" in hiker boxes along the way. They can be mailed as long as you declare them since they have to be shipped ground.
I used an alchy stove and NEVER had any problems finding fuel.

If you mail them to yourself along the way they will be really easy to find.
I just bought them at outfitters along the way relying on the guide book to know who carried them. I never ran out of fuel but often carried an extra small canister. According to the A.T. Guide the Rendezvous Motel in Pearisburg, VA was suppose to have canisters but had quit carrying them.

I would say difficult and expensive. I do know that finding cigarette lighters are easier to find than matches.
