Living in South Florida, about the only place I can go buy gear locally is Bass Pro, which does not have much in the way of hard core camping/hiking equipment. So I spend time online browsing and shopping. Just curious where folks like to look/buy. Here are a few of my favorites:

-REI - great return policy. Spend over $50 and it arrives in about three days with free shipping.
-Patagonia
-Amazon - want something? Just look it up and you will be surprised at what is there. Sometimes prices are great, other times not.
-EMS
-Arcteryx - very cool site
-Mountain Gear
-Outdoor Research

Where do you like to look and buy?

I have been looking closely at eBay and Craigs List. I have my heart set on a few things and I want to buy them used and/or cheap.

Yes, the cottage industries seem to have the newest designs that are most favored by many, and not necessarily more expensive. A whole list of those might be nice. Many of these specialize in a few types of items. Just off the top of my head, here are some more that seem to get a lot of attention around here.

+1 on Anti-Gravity Gear. Their titanium stoves are out of my budget but the site is great for UL window shopping.

These guys often have discounts. I just ordered a BA Clearview pad from them, $50 list and they charged $43. Free shipping over $50. They're in Utah so it takes eight days for ground ship orders to reach the east coast --

The following are e-tailers with an interesting or unique selection. I haven't done business with any of these --

http://www.theclymb.com This is a member only site, so you normally have to be referred by another member. But most of the merchandise is 70% off retail. And they have name brands. Right now membership is open for a limited time without the referral.

Didn't see BearPawWilderness Designs, but John had been helpful, quick to respond, and fair in prices. He does custom work too. He made a 1.5 person net tent for me a couple weeks back. Nice job. http://www.bearpawwd.com/shelters_floors/net.html

For those who sew try Ragged Mountain in I believe Intervale NH. Just up the road from North Coway. They market their own line of fleece sell kits, & raw materiels & paterns

+1 on Travel Country. I live in SW FL and will drive up there whenever I need gear. Everyone there is AWESOME and several of them have hiked the AT, PCT, etc. They know what they are talking about. There is also a place in Sarasota called Environeers that I haven't been to yet but their website says they deal in backpacking and climbing gear so one of these days I'll have to get up there. Hope this helps.
