A friend and I are set to do the first 30 miles (specifically Springer Mt. to Blood Mt.) of the AT next month and are concerned about water. According to a chart on the Georgia AT club's website, a lot of the water spots are dried up or at a trickle. Looks like there is a 20 mile gap with no good water. I wanted to see if anyone has been out to that section recently and what you experienced with water supplies. Thanks.

Water was fine the 17-24 of September and they had a lot of rain while I was out there. I think Generoll recently posted an updated water report for that area.

Thanks. Do you have a link to that thread? I can't find it.

I just finished that section ( Oct 22-25) and there is NO water problems at all. You just need to fill up as needed to insure you do not go dry. The only dry areas I know of were Woody GAp and Jarrod and with the rainy season coming, those may be flowing by the time you hike. No worries on water.

Also wondering what 20m section that might have been perceived to be? Depending on how dry some of the regular springs are, I can't think of any stretch that would ever be over 9-10m at the height of our worst droughts so far.

This is the source I was going off of and was only counting the water sites that said Good. http://www.georgia-atclub.org/trail/water.htm

We just got off that section on Friday. We left a water stash at Woody gap and carried 3 liters each up beyond Big Cedar. Had plenty to finish hike but could have carried less as we were almost to Lance creek when we stopped for the night.
