What weighs more, a pound of feathers, or a pound of lead?

a pound is a pound?

they both weigh more.

The lead will pack down smaller though and has dwr coating.

but you can trim the featherweight along the way(a feather at a time), much harder to do with the lead

No one seems to grasp the massive gravity of this quandary.

understood.as the concept of weight is determined by two or more bodies, proportional to the distance between, the OPs question has no meaning unless it is relative to a third party, in this case, planet earth. the real question is which has more mass.

Thank you all for setting me straight on this vexing question  I stretch every sinew and nerve to under-stand.

Really thank you for all the replies. Especially as one of you brilliant minds observes that as regards backpacking: a pound of feathers and a pound of lead are both heavier. :( I hadn't thought of that. Yes, I know this rings true for me; I grasp this viscerally in the low back. And further, I gotta agree: few grasp the true gravity of this situation. And thanks for the suggestion that it is not weight at all but mass I should consider. Any more thoughts on these weighty matters?

No one can go feather than they are lead. :D
