Hey Guys,

I saw a previous post so it led me here. I have a new product of mine for those who like the outdoors as I do but want to bring some comfort with them. Its the first really versatile and useful backpack-luggage-chair device.

I am just starting to advertise them, and will be selling them soon. I patented it this year, and I am trying to ramp production. It only weighs about 7.5 lbs, which is the same weight as most folding chairs and it fold up into a framepack as well so its pretty light. It's the only chair that you can carry with you when riding your bicycle, the only chair you can bring with you when you go mountain climbing as it can also store your gear, and its the only product with wheels as an option. So, if you get tired of carrying that 60 lb pack, you can then roll it on some of the flats. It can be compacted into a "lumbarpella" as seen in one of the photo's, and in this config, with small wheels, it can be used as carry-on luggage on board aircraft. But has have the small wheels. http://forums.backpacker.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif

Let me know what you think, and let me know what advise you can offer to spread the word, or if you want one, let me know that also.

and let me know if you can't see it, as it probably means you have u-verse, which seems to block the site for some reason.

Okay, not to be mean - just technically critical. Kinda looks like a pack stuck (not very eloquently) to the back of a folding lawn chair. I don't see integration of components or any real design innovation.

Is this really patented? It seems below the threshold of what is typically required.

What is the target market? You won't see much if any interest from serious hikers. Possibly more from the tailgating / picnicing types.

What is the retail price?

if your pack is full and you get up off the chair does it tip over backward?

It must.

Good luck backpack chair guy, there might be a market for your contraption, but not amongest long distance hikers.

No it actually doesn't normally because the chair has multiple rear leg positions, one that locks it more rearward and therefore better supports a full pack.

Gray Blazer "It might be good for the beach."

And yes Gray Blazer it is great for the beach, and its the only portable folding chair with Lumbar support.

Right now, 4eyedbuzzard, the chair and the backpack retail for $219, same price as the lowest priced zuca.com carrier that you can buy, Since this chair doubles as a carrier so that you can roll things down to the beach with you and not have to carry it the whole way.

Ideally this backpack luggage carrier chair is best suited for day camping where you can remove your backpack from the chair and take it with you, for soccer parents to carry their gear to games where they have to sit for long periods of time, for tail gate parties where you want to be comfy sitting for many hours each weekend, and for beach goers who want to have to carry only one item that carry's all the other items to the beach.

It may not be the perfect long range hiking item to use, but for those that just want to backpack just a few miles in and be comfy for the week of camping, this is the way to go.

If a hiker wants a seat that's nearly always available, he/she need only carry a 1 lb. hammock and find a couple of sturdy anchors to tie it to (trees obviously being what comes to mind, but hammocks can be used in some very ingenious ways).

Good luck. I think it's a really tough sell at anywhere near $219 though. Other "enhanced" consumer chair products in that category (beach, car camping, etc chairs with some added feature) seem to be more in the $30 to $60 retail range.

Thanks Buzzard, but maybe you didn't read my post correctly, the Backpack AND/with the Chair sell for $219. Numerous backpacks sell for that price just as backpacks, and do not include the Chair.

Its a pretty good price for the combination of the two, imho.

The pack rides way to low. Will give the real frame packs a bad name choose another market like the beachGood luck hopefully you haven't invested too much.
