Hey guys looking for some info.

Heading out from Hoyt Rd NY to Morgan Stewart Shelter early November and I know I go through some farm land (hiked it late June this year). I also know its comming into hunting season for various game. Those who have hiked this area around this time... is Blaze Orange recommended?

If you're hiking in hunting season, then yes, wear blaze orange.

If I recall correctly you might even pass through a hunting club area. Fresh deer drags and spent shot gun shells were located on the trail too when I went that way a couple of years ago. Yeah, I would wear orange!!

OK thanks! I wasn't sure if I was hiking in any hunting areas over there. I know Bear Mtn to Fingerboard was basically no hunting in that area.

I'll head off to Sports Authority to get me some orange.

Gracias,

Raul

That's more or less the area where this happened:

I'd get a blaze orange pack cover in addition to a jacket and hat. The more the merrier.

I think you'll find THIS (http://www.nynjtc.org/news/deer-hunting-dates-new-york-and-new-jersey-2011) page informative.

Yeah I was going to say rifle season doesn't start until November 19th.

LI Hiker thanks for the link.

Trainhopper - I understand that but it's been bow season since Oct 15th and I dont want to catch an arrow in my ass either. I was unaware of active hunting in that area and based on the responses it seems there are hunters that frequent that area.

The only place on the AT I don't feel the need to wear it is Shenandoah (maybe also the Smokies)
