Anyone know the current water conditions from Clingmans Dome down to Fontana. Going to be on that part of the trail next week.
Thanks,
Davis

As of the end of the first week of October, there was water at every shelter, plus a trickle about 50 yards downstream of the pipe at Ekaneetlee Gap a few miles south of Mollies Ridge. The water source at Russell Field Shelter was supposed to be a puddle, but I didn't check it out.

I was just out about 2 weeks ago in that section. There was plenty of water. The only place it was a bit tricky was Birch Springs Gap and I just had to hollow out a spot in the spring drainage area and scoop out some water there. Plenty of water everywhere else and it's been wet up there...they had snow just after I got finished.

Hey thanks for the info and inquiry. My buddy "Parkrat" should be out there when you are tridavis... if you see him tell him Ben says "sup. Get to Oregon, son"

Right now, I think you're good to go - just at Standing Indian Shelter - nice flow

uh - yeah, I know that's not between Clingman's and Fontana -- guess it's close enough to be similar in water conditions - didn't look at the OPs post carefully

Here is the Russell Field Shelter puddle and the slow flowing Birch Spring Gap Campsite from around 10/9/2011. We used a leaf to fill bottles.
