Hello all,

I was planning on passing by Pickle Branch Shelter next week and read something about fire damage in the area. I was planning on tenting near the access trail to the shelter. I passed by a few years ago and noted a good spot. Is this area burned out? If not where did the fire occur?

Any info would be appreciated.

i stayed at pickle branch a few weeks back. the only fire damage i saw was south of there/south of Va. 620 and trout creek and it was up on the ridge. there are plenty of great tent sites along the access trail to the shelter as well as a great site down near the water source across the creek. it almost looks like a little island with a fire ring and it appears very flat. considered pitching my tarp down there at this site but i thought it might be fairly cold with the proximity to the creek.
