Anyone tried making a tarp/tent out of this. I suppose you could reenforce the stress points and with proper care, it would hold up. Aside from costing 3 times as much as the 1.1 oz sinylon and being less durable, are there other concers? Is it less waterproof in a heavy downpore? Would it stand up to a stiff wind?

There are some recent reviews of a spintarp at BackpackGearTest.org, so look there. I recall the biggest complaint was that it's very noisy in a rainstorm.

I've not used it yet, but AYCE has written that it is different fabric from what Bozeman Mountain Works or Gossamer Gear are using, and that it was probably not the best material for tarps (because it is so light).

AYCE has also written that he has another custom manufacturerd material on the way that is ~1oz/yd with the sillicone treatment. He speculated that this would be a better choice for tarps.

This tarp is made of .7 Spinnaker Sail material that you can buy at a lot of different kite stores. The material was $3.00 a yard when I bought it but is now $3.50 a yard. I bought the material and sent it to MAC Cat and Brian made it into an excellent light weight tarp for me. The weight of the tarp is about 13oz. This tarp is large and works really well in heavy rain and high wind. Just don't make one to small and you will be happy with it.

I recall the biggest complaint was that it's very noisy in a rainstorm. What I had gathered is that it is loud in the wind. This of course can be solved by making a catenary ridge line.
