<br>Alert: In central Virginia, almost 4 miles of the A.T. is
temporarily CLOSED from USFS 35, Petites Gap/
BRP milepost 71 (47 miles north of
Daleville, VA) south to approximately Blue Ridge Parkway milepost 74.9,
one mile north of
Thunder Hill Shelter, due to a forest fire in the Glenwood-Pedlar Ranger
District of the George Washington - Jefferson National Forest. As of
yesterday evening, the fire covers 217 acres and is 30% contained. The
closure will continue at least through today (11/16) and most likely for
two more days.

I would imagine that this is probably out by now. It's been raining pretty steady all day. Maybe a few hot spots here and there.

As of Thursday morning, the fire is out, but still is being monitored. The Forest Service plans to re-open the A.T. and Petites Gap Road on Friday, Nov. 18. The Parkway is still closed. Its opening depends upon the weather - below freezing at the summit and possible snow today.
