i'm planning my thru around the first week in april. trying to cut my weight as much as possible. do i need to take any insect repellent at that time? purchase some about 2 or 3 weeks later when it warms up? or just take it to be on the safe side... thanks.
I'd not take any, or a very small bottle. Then, buy it enroute as needed.

I doubt that you'll need any until sometime in May. I've done GA in April and there were no biting insects. I did GA-Fontana in mid-May with the only problem being swarming gnats. I don't recall using bug spray around Pearisburg, VA in early June one year, although I'm sure I brought it.
