The peak for watching the Leonids (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45328727/ns/technology_and_science-space/#.TsQ9SnGr0UM) this year is Thurday November 17, 2011. Most won't start showing along eastern North America until after midnight.

Anyone planning a stargazing hike to watch?

I saw one of the best shooting stars I've ever seen last Friday night around 7:30 pm. It was amazing. I hope the sky clears up around here tomorrow night...

You better head back to Tenn. Jed. One of the best shows I ever saw was back in 1996 I think,(leonids).I could see a smoke trail, very faint and could here the meteor sizzle as it passed over.I awoke at 4:30 AM to watch, and was not disipointed with about 35 meteors in a hour and a half maybe Hope It's clear here in the north east by thurs.:)

Too bad it isn't next Thursday with the new moon in the sky. The third quarter moon will diminish the vividness of the meteors as they streak across the sky.

It's calling for partial clearing here tomorrow night , we will see ...or maybe not.

Wow! Nothing like a good sky show. Maybe this year will bring back those good views?

While I'm driving home from work tonight (11PM-12:30AM) I'll have to keep one eye on the sky, usually I close them both while driving home.:D

Drats! They're sometimes as elusive as Maine moose.....

I spent a few cold minutes outside around four this morning. Bright moon and a few bright stars. No meteorites. Went back inside and made a pot of tea.
