I'm planning a ski trip up north (VT) this January, and on the drive up we wanted to stop for a couple days on the way and do some exploring. Being from PA, I'm familiar with the wonderful rustic cabins (http://www.patc.net/PublicView/Cabins/PublicView/Custom/PATC_Cabins/Cabins.aspx?hkey=5f0b8e83-6571-45fb-aec3-819ca09d651c) the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club offers, and we use them often. Are there any similar type of cabin networks along the I-87 corridor (with cabins available in the winter) between PA and VT? Just a basic primitive cabin with a fireplace is perfect for our needs.

Thanks for any input!
Matt

probably not as rustic as you were thinking, but some of these are just about on the trail. the ones in stokes are pretty far off

Those are nicer than the ski cabin we have in VT! Haha. Yeah, looking a little bit more on the roughing it side...chop-our-own-firewood, filter-water-from-a-stream type of cabin.

This is a good option if we change our driving route, thanks! I'll put this one on my list of possibilities.

It's the wrong bear mountain, but the AMC conn. chapter has a cabin next to Bear Mt. Conn. for rental (short hike I think). I've not been there but it's a nice area.
Several Mass. state parks/forests have cabins to rent (Savoy Mt. and Mohawk Trail in the Berkshires).
Taconic State Park in NY has cabins (pricey, don't know if they're open in winter).
