Calling all alcohol stove gurus!! Does anyone here have a Caldera Cone w/ 12-10 stove? I just got mine today and I'm only having problems. In my tests, the stove burns thru 1oz of yellow HEET in 3 to 5 minutes, and the water is warm-hot. There's no wind here and it's around 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

Any ideas why it isn't working properly? I've seen youtube videos of this setup burning for over 10 minutes!

Something really odd there.
Are you sure that you have the right cone/pot combination ?

Are you testing with the burner alone or with the windscreen with a pot in place? The stove is meant to function in a low oxygen environment. If you test the stove in stand alone mode, it's going to burn through the alcohol really fast.

If you are in fact testing the stove with the stove + windscreen + pot (http://adventuresinstoving.blogspot.com/2011/10/stove-of-week-caldera-cone.html)* and you're getting those times, then you've got a defective stove. Contact Trail Designs, and they'll fix you up. Their customer service reputation is excellent.

You didn't mention how much H2O you are trying to get to boil with that 1 fl oz of yellow Heet.

Thanks for all the responses. I thought maybe I was doing something wrong, so I did some more tests and it's a defect. All the HEET leaks out after ~20 seconds of being lit. I contacted TD and they've sent a new 12-10.

Makes sense. No way were those good numbers for a 12-10 with Caldera Cone.
