Has anyone read the paper on Shaffer's thru-hike by James W. McNeely? Click on the blue banner at the top of the page. Copies of this turned up in several shelters.

The author must be someone's buddy for it to be at the top of the home page for so long. To me it's a non issue. There wasn't any rules for walking the trail when Shaffer did it. I'm sure he had to road walk some sections for a lack of being able to find the trail...big deal.
