Found this video demonstrating a super-hydrophobic spray. Have they discovered the Holy Grail of waterproofing?

If it's not crazy expensive I'll give it a try.

It will be interesting to see how the product works on items that are being used... For example, I imagine using it on my rain jacket. Just like all of you, I fold it, or roll it, etc and stuff it to be as small as possible in my pack. I wonder if the Integrity of the product’s barrier system will deteriorate when the item it’s applied to is actually used. Impressive video, tho...

They have a Facebook page. Best I can tell the product will be available in 2012. More amazing video of using Never Wet on a circuit board and iPhone then submerging underwater.........

Couldn't be as bad, as say, the sodium levels in a standard Mountain House meal huh?

Will probably be so expensive that NASA won't be able to afford it. :D and/or it's made in China and has an extremely high lead content. Would be nice if it's cheap and can also be used for fuel/fire starter, just keep treated shoes/clothing away from campfires.:D

I just emailed them requesting information about product durability and any chemical hazards. I'm not expecting an elaborate response, if any. My two favorite idioms are "Nothing is free" and "If it seems too good to be true, it probably isn't". Are dry feet, dry sleeping bags, and dry everything worth the health of your great grand-children?

I bet it leaches into our water supply, bonds with our cells, and prohibits our ability to absorb any fluids. We all die of dehydration regardless of how much we drink :)

If it does turn out to be harmless, I want to be covered in the stuff!

I found this article on neverwet, http://www.eaa.org/news/2011/2011-11-23_neverwet.asp, it says it's silicon based.

It is 21st century. Human has dominated the planet earth, gone to moon, Discovered nuclear power and we still are hesitant about a spray that is just water reppelant or super reppelant? Why?

What about where the sock enters the boot? No way is anything going to keep one dry in a week of solid rain. Another gimmic.

We need to explore the potential for practical jokes. Perhaps treating peoples kitchen sponges and bath towels. More ideas?
