I've been calling the services along the BMT trying to finish up for the 2012 guidebook and thought this bit of information might be something BMT hikers of the past may want to know.
Mardee & Dan Kauffman who run Whitehouse B&B in Ducktown are packing it in this year. They have been helping hikers for about 19 years on the Benton MacKaye Trail - that area was the northern terminus for years until the BMT got finished about 6 years ago. I know there have been a few hikers over the last 4 years that have stayed there and told me how wonderful the Kauffmans were to them.
They will be missed.
bummer to hear that. Are they selling the B&B?

I know there have been a few hikers over the last 4 years that have stayed there and told me how wonderful the Kauffmans were to them.
They will be missed.
They are indeed wonderful people. One of the best stops I've had on ANY trail.

Greetings. I am new to this forum and am thrilled to have found it! Recently, I was looking for inns/B & B's along the trail and came across info about the Whitehouse B & B which led me to whiteblaze.net. Did anyone ever re-open the Whitehouse B & B and/or is it still around? Thank you.

This is a different B&B on the BMT not the AT in Maine.
Services on the BMT near Ducktown per http://www.bmta.org/resupply.htm. Looks like the list was last updated in 2016. I don't have my 2017-18 guidebook yet so this is the best info I am currently aware of.

• Olympic Whitewater Center (1.1 mile to right) Olympic Whitewater Center (http://www.fs.usda.gov/recarea/cherokee/recreation/recarea/?recid=35096&actid=50) 4400 Hwy. 64, Copperhill TN 37317. Phone: (877) 692-6050, Fax: (423) 496-1515. Notes: Run by the US Forest Service, this stop is recommended even if just passing through. See website for hours of operation. Directions: Turn right on Hwy 64 (southbounders turn left) and walk 1.1 mile to Whitewater Center on right. Services: Pay phone, water, soda and vending machines.
• Ducktown Copper Inn. 7.6 miles east on US 64. 178 5 Points Dr, Ducktown, TN. Phone: 423-496-5541. Winter $49 + tax, spring-fall $59 + tax per night. Hiker box on site, accepts mail drops sent to PO Box 98 Ducktown, TN 37326 or 178 5 Points Dr, Copper Hill, TN 37317. Laundry available. Can do shuttles to and from the BMT. Internet computer available for guests to use. Pets accepted for $20.
• Various services in Ducktown, TN (8 miles to right), US Post Office, 1656 Highway 68, Ducktown, TN 37326. Phone: 423-496-5467. Notes: Ducktown is a small town with most services needed by long-distance hikers. Directions: Turn right (southbounders turn left) and proceed east on 4-lane divided Hwy 64 a distance of 8 miles into town. Services: PO, Grocery Store, Gas Stations, Motel, Restaurants.
I would recommend the Ocoee River Inn behind the gas station over the Copper Inn. I had a lady giving me a ride say in the past she's dropped off hikers at the Copper Inn who've left after a couple hours and just eat the cost to stay in the other one instead.
I've stayed in the Ocoee River Inn myself with no issue.
The front desk Ocoee River Inn Mngr/owner has treated me well as a hiker. They even agreed to a hiker discount which I appreciated.
Thunder Rock CG can be hopping in late spring through fall. Many paddlers and rafters stay here.

No problem. The trail runs right into the Thunder Rock CG, like Dogwood mentioned, and the campground manager (her RV is close to the front and the bathrooms) was happy to give me a ride to Ducktown and pick me back up in the morning as well. This was last summer, and based on our conversations she should be there this summer as well.

I stayed at the Copper Inn. No laundry available even though the guidebook says so and even more importantly, it is a hotel. So they have to have laundry machines for sheets, towels, etc. right? I offered a generous, perhaps even a ridiculous, amount of $$ to access these machines. The owners did not budge. I would not stay at this place. Not hiker friendly.
