OK, maybe the title was slightly misleading but perhaps the greatest job connected to the AT could be yours. MATC is once again looking for caretakers/ridgerunners for the 2012 season in Maine. For those of you who hiked through Maine thinking that this is the greatest section of the whole trail, this is your chance to live next to the trail and actually get paid for it. The ideal applicant will have completed the AT and maybe some of the PCT and/or the CDT. They will have experience dealing with the public doing such things as retail clerk, teacher, waiter, or guide. Finally familiarity with LNT principles is important. These are our ideals but we are flexible. What doesn't work are applicants who tell me that they have been interested in the AT ever since they read..............., claim to "love" the outdoors, and would really like to see northern New England, but essentially have limited hiking experience on the AT.
