With unseasonably warm temps it looks like it might be a good year to start from Springer on January 1 and make a dash for Davenport Gap.

I remember driving 2 friends down to Springer in '94.
Dropped them off in Feb and it was 70 degrees.
A week later, they were holed up in a hotel room and spent almost a thousand bucks waiting out winter.
They lasted about 600 miles that year.
Got bored, sitting around instead of walking.
To each his own of course.
I would've hiked in the snow/winter conditions.
They decided to stay warm and watch TV.
