Just posted a blog entry on how many of the Fifty State's High Points one could bag on an AT Thru.

I'd love to read your comments, corrections and suggestions.

You have two asterisks for High Point in NJ indicating a day plus side trip. The AT goes pretty much right past it.

Thanks, I'll change that. I'll be damned if I can find it now, but I had read that it was more than a couple of miles round trip ...

I agree with 4eyedbuzzard, the High Point monument is no more than a half-mile off the AT. I stopped there near the end of my first AT section hike in April 1973 (http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=65), and again on a weekender in 2004 (http://whiteblaze.net/forum/vbg/showimage.php?i=4187) when the monument was still closed for restoration.

6 on the AT or via a very short side trail + Mt. Frissell is pretty close + Brasstown Bald is a couiple days out and back.

I bagged Mt. Davis, Backbone Mt. and Spruce Knob in one day using car & feet.

Nice blog, cw.
Mt. Frissel (CT) is about 1.5 miles each way from the AT, or a bit less if you skip 1/2 mile of AT. The CT high point is a little below the top of Frissel; there's a stone marker there.
Mt. Mansfield (VT) is about a 90 mile drive if you rent a car in Hanover, NH.
