To be more timely, the next official listing of recent 2,000-milers in ATC's member magazine, A.T. Journeys, will appear in the March/April issue instead of the May/June issue. This means that the deadline for getting your 2,000-miler application into the mail to ATC (postmarked) is December 31, rather than February 15 (the date that appears on applications that were passed out at Baxter and elsewhere). We will have a grace period of a few days, but we need to compile the listing for the magazine editor soon.

To be considered an official "2,000-miler," you need to complete the entire A.T., not just 2,000 miles--unless there's a life-threatening safety issue or official closure, such as those affecting the Trail in Vermont and New Hampshire this year due to hurricanes. If you aqua-blazed or otherwise skipped a section, we expect that you will go back and hike the section you missed before you submit your application. Our recognition operates on the honor system. Because of the continually changing length of the A.T., we stick with the term "2,000-miler"--referring to the original estimated length of the Trail.

An official 2,000-miler application and more about the 2,000-miler recognition process can be found on our website at www.appalachiantrail.org/ATCompletion.

If you miss the deadline, we can include you in a subsequent year's listing in A.T. Journeys (there's no time limit on reporting a hike completion); once a year we publish names (and trail names) all new 2,000-milers. We also have a complete 2,000-miler listing on our website that's updated periodically. We haven't publicized this yet because it's still being tweaked.

We look forward to hearing from you! As much as we love hearing highlights, stories, musings, and feedback about your section- and thru-hikes, don't feel that you have to fill out that portion of the form if finding the right words is stopping you from sending it in.
