Virginia Section Hike

I am planning on hiking the entire Virginia section starting in early July, should I start at the southern end or the northern end?

Going on the convenience factor , southern end is closer . By ending in Harpers Ferry you have transit options by Amtrak or shuttle services to a Greyhound Station in MD.
Also in Harpers Ferry you can visit the ATC Visitor Center and get your name in the section hiker catalog along with your smiley face. :)

Southern end - relatively cool temps at the higher elevations around Mt. Rogers & Grayson Highlands.
