I will be in Florida in a couple weeks and was curious how far it was from G-ville to the Florida Trail.

It's about 40 miles out to Buckman Lock. That is a good place to go if you'r looking for a nice day hike. Buckman Lock is south of Palatka on Hwy 19.

You didn't say if you wanted a day hike or overnight. If just a day hike skip the Florida Trail and head to Paynes Prairie State Park. Plenty of loops you can put together 20-22 miles. http://www.floridastateparks.org/paynesprairie/
The main entrance is about 10 miles south of Gainesville. You actually go past the FT office on the way there.
If you have a bike the paved Gainesville-Hathorne State Trail runs along the north end of the park.
